That's not even considering the feelings that Tate has stirred in his gut and lower, what the hell is going on - Hawke is straight! Tate's life all comes crashing down when a big, grouchy, mean looking man shows up on his doorstep mentioning names he prayed he would never hear again. Thankfully after some quick talking Tate manages to convince the Stranger, Hawke, that he isn't looking to seek retribution for his wife by Tate..
Why is he not surprised. Tate isn't ready to even consider facing his past, he can't let his family know where he is, not if he wants to protect Matty. However, when running from Hawke doesn't shake the big guy off and Matty suddenly in need of more than Tate can provide - Tate doesn't know what's he will do.
He doesn't expect Hawke to make him an offer he can't refuse. So Tate puts the love and well-being of Matty above his own life and safety and agrees to help Hawke find his brother and Dad. As the two set off on their trip Hawke never expects to feel something for the man sitting in his truck with him, Hawke never expected to feel anything again except Hatred for the men who took his wife. Tate, he never imagined he could feel something for someone who basically took over his life and is forcing him to face his past, but he sees beyond Hawke's surface to the broken and lonely man below and he knows his life will never be the same after meeting Hawke.
Overall, this story really was my favorite thus far if the series and I think it will be hard for Sloane to top Hawke and his brooding manliness. They helped Hawke see, living again - doesn't mean forgetting, it just means you're human. This book was the perfect mix of angst, Feelz, passion, desire, mystery, revenge, and life. Jun 10, Tina rated it it was amazing Shelves: Re-Read - Jun Read - Sep I was soooo excited for this book, and it is definitely my favorite in the series!
Hawke and Tate were such an unbelievably lovable couple, their story went straight to my heart. And Matty is the cutest, funniest, strongest kid ever! Love that we see a lot more to Ronan and Seth, love them and their big hearts! Epilog was Fucking perfect! View all 4 comments. The scenario immediately appealed to me.
One guy out for revenge, tough, hard as nails and determined to get what he wants. The other, scarred by his past life, hiding from those who have abused and failed him, but full of selflessness and courage when it comes to his little son. Unfortunately Tate is also the only person who can help Hawk to find the people who killed his wife. They are an unlikely pair, and even more so because Hawk has never been attracted to a man before.
Of course it doesn't The scenario immediately appealed to me.

Of course it doesn't help that at the beginning Hawk keeps threatening Tate with a gun. I loved how Hawk's heart starts to melt slowly when he gets to know Tate better, how his decent, human side comes out bit by bit and how he turns into a protector rather than an avenger. The sexual tension between these two guys is electric and when they finally get together, their release was almost painful to watch. Boy, are they hot together! And there is nothing like a big gruff, strong guy, showing his tender and soft side. I really enjoyed the action-packed plot, and although I read this as a stand alone, I didn't feel I was missing out on anything.
Of course I was aware that Ronan and Seth had their own story, but I was happy meeting them as Micheal's friends.

This was my first book by Sloane Kennedy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will certainly check out more titles by this author! Nov 02, BR11 rated it liked it Shelves: I liked it, but didn't love it. Why, would you wonder? GFY stories are my cuppa, and this one had a butt virgin to boot Well, the answer is that I like the buildup, the tension, the realization that yeah, this guy that has never even thought about other guys is, in fact, hot for another man. And then the acceptance and submission to the truth. This story practically didn't have any of that.
Hawke had only been with his wife and he'd never even thought about another human being that An ok book. Hawke had only been with his wife and he'd never even thought about another human being that was not her in a sexual way. But, he sees Tate and, he instantly falls in love with him He practically doesn't question himself, his sexuality, nothing And Tate, he also falls almost instantly in love with this guy he met when he dragged him by the hair into his apartment and held him at gunpoint.
Excuse me if I fail to see the appeal. What I'm trying to say is that this whole story felt too insta-lovey to me.
Such a shame because this book had a good story going, the plot and secondary characters were decent but the connection was too fast and furious for me to enjoy it. Also their first time made me flinch. I cannot say more without adding a spoiler alert, but if you read the book you'll see what I mean.
Catch up in preparation for book 4 Oh Hawke and Tate how I adored them. I love this series but I'm not sure about crossing series's only because I haven't read that one,but I'm gonna give Logans need a try then I may have to edit this review. I picked this up because it had the "gfy" tag. As a huge lover a gfy this was a disappointment, I didn't like it, it didn't read like a gfy. Hawke was attracted to Tate and had dubious sex with him because although the author tries to make it seem like Tate was into it, it was almost borderline rape.
Jun 14, Aerin rated it it was amazing Shelves: I knew this was Hawke's story but I didn't read the blurb or reviews. I basically went in blind and formed my own opinion of the book which isn't something I do often; I pretty much never start reading a book without reading the blurb, but due to lack of time and the hurry to start reading this, it happened.
God, I have so much love for this book, I can't even express myself! We know Hawke lost his wife years ago after she was brutally raped and set on fire; his story is sad to start with, but as I knew this was Hawke's story but I didn't read the blurb or reviews. We know Hawke lost his wife years ago after she was brutally raped and set on fire; his story is sad to start with, but as we get to be a part of Hawke's thoughts and feelings, his story becomes heartbreaking.
The fact that he has murder planned for the bastards who murdered his wife is no secret; Hawke lives for the day he can get the justice and revenge he promised his wife before her death. Tate Travers and his son Matty are in hiding from his abusive and homophobic brother and father, the same people who destroyed Hawke's future and left him a broken man. Tate and Hawke should be enemies, and Hawke has every reason to hate Tate, but he can't do it. Tate is a brave, courageous, kind human being who took a child away from danger and is raising him as his own.
No matter how much both men tell themselves pursuing something is bad news, they simply can't stop thinking about each other. I loved every single thing about their relationship, including the grieving part that Hawke is still going through after all these years. The sex is so fucking hot and so full of delicious tension, I wanted to melt.
There are also feelings, and a slow burn that I've come to crave like an addict craves his drug of choice. I won't even mention the dirty talk, since that's a sure way my brain will stop working and this review will never get written. I think what I love the most about this book was the lack of conflicting emotions. Yeah, Michael Hawke is conflicted about Tate and his feelings for him, but the way he acknowledges his feelings and doesn't push Tate away because of them, is refreshing and exactly what I needed from this book.
Retribution was the perfect mix of angst, love and lack of drama; it was everything I needed at the time, and exactly what I hoped for. What made it even more perfect was that the story didn't go the way I thought it would; vengeance was found but not the way we're led to believe it will. While this book can easily be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the previous books specially book 2 since those characters make an appearance in this book as well.
I can't wait for the next book!!! It will be Mav's book, Matty's grandfather who's a new character introduced towards the end of Retribution. May 02, Caroline Brand rated it it was amazing Shelves: Hawke has waited a decade to catch the men responsible for raping and murdering his wife. Tate ran far and fast two years ago when he finally escaped the hell he was living. As well as Hawke living with his need for revenge he is swamped by guilt and after ten years it is suffocating him. He runs hot and cold a lot of the time, he is scared all of the time and it makes him quite difficult to understand, or perhaps even like, in the beginning.
Matty was great, the storyline cleverly woven in and of course it meant we got to spend time with Ronan and Seth — bald heads and all. Tate gained a family and after everything he had lived through he really needed that almost as much as he needed Hawke. There are more characters stories to be told though and I am already looking forward to the next one. Jun 14, Mimi rated it it was amazing Shelves: Soul searching at it's best. Hawke and Tate are two men who are in a living hell. Two half's of the same coin.
Hawke was introduced to us in Ronan and Seth's story Salvation. Grieving Veteran turned Hired gun. Tragedy struck him coming home from his last mission, his wife was brutally raped and murdered. He promised to get her Retribution. Tate is just a means to an end. Son of the man who took everything from Hawke. Tate also has his only version of hell he is so desperately trying to crawl his way out of.
This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster. Hawke's grieving, Tate trying to not self implode and then we add to the mix Matty. Let's just say "tissue". And let's not forget about the sex. Hawke's feelings for Tate start off at a slow burn and turns into a five alarm fire.
Sexy, sexy and sexy. Sloane Kennedy has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I am so glad to see that the series is not ending with Hawke and Tate, she will continue on with Mav's story. This book was given to me for my honest review. Aug 29, Alona rated it liked it Shelves: This is my first book in the series, it's actually my first book by Sloane Kennedy.
I liked it, and it made me want to read Seth and Ronan's book book 2 in the series , but, I think Hawke's dead wife played a too big part in this book. I'm not against an MC having feelings for a dead partner in my books, it actually make them more devoted and trustworthy IMO, but here, it was a bit too much for too long. I love kids in my books, they are usually way more easy to raise then in RL, and I'm A OK wi This is my first book in the series, it's actually my first book by Sloane Kennedy.
